About Us

Samuels Solicitors was founded in Barnstaple in 1990 and very quickly became North Devon's niche litigation practice. We also have an excellent reputation for our private client and property services throughout the West Country and beyond. With a new office opening in Kingsbridge in 2018, we truly are in a position to serve clients all over the South West, as well as nationally.

Our litigation specialisms include negligence claims against solicitors, surveyors, financial advisors and other professionals, boundary and neighbour disputes, ground rent claims, libel and slander claims, commercial litigation and debt recovery work.

On the private client side of our business, we have an excellent reputation for wills, probate, tax advice, establishing trusts, powers of attorney and estate planning, as well as well-respected and often-recommended residential and commercial conveyancing services.

Our firm has been awarded membership of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme for many years, demonstrating our committment to excellent client care. The head of our private client department is a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, open only to those who have completed higher levels of qualifications in these areas. Our senior partner is a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association, and has been for many years.

The firm has been awarded Lexcel accreditation for many years running, the Law Society's legal practice quality mark for excellence in legal practice management and excellence in client care.

On 1 May 2018, Samuels Solicitors became a limited liability partnership, and is now known as Samuels Solicitors LLP.

Our Clients

We have a down to earth and sympathetic approach to our clients' problems and we will always explain your options in plain English. We recognise the importance of keeping our clients informed on the progress of cases and responding quickly to our clients' needs. If you prefer to discuss your matter over the telephone, rather than receiving emails, we will be happy to arrange that.

We also appreciate that legal solutions should be cost effective. We advise clients about our fees at the outset, and keep you regularly informed as the case progresses. If you have a strong case, but limited access to funds, we will discuss your funding options with you.

When clients have a strong case, we will always consider flexible funding arrangements to ensure that you have access to justice whenever needed. These can include deferred fees, payments by monthly direct debits or special fee rates.

If your matter is suitable for a conditional (no win no fee) arrangement, we will be happy to discuss this with you at an early stage.

We are always happy to have a no obligation discussion about a case at the outset and in most cases, we will be able to give you a free initial assessment of your claim.

Our Staff

We are committed to helping our staff progress with their careers, and have had many employees who have become legally qualified whilst working for us.

We are always interested in hearing from lawyers or other fee earners with specialisms that match our own and would be happy if you would like to contact us.
