Huge Claim Against Estate Agents Starts

Judith Thompson

A large claim is being brought against Foxtons, estate agents who let and manage properties on behalf of private landlords.

The private landlords are alleging that Foxtons charged up to 33% commission, on top of fees for repairs undertaken at the properties. The private landlords say they had not agreed to pay this.

The group action also alleges that Foxtons’ "hidden commissions" did not appear in any invoices or accounts.

If the allegations are true, Foxtons would have a conflict of interest, as they would receive higher commissions by using more expensive tradespeople to carry out repairs.

Foxtons have not commented on the litigation.
