Lasting Power of Attorney Fee Refunds

Abbie Kingdon  01-03-2018

If you registered a Lasting Power of Attorney or an Enduring Power of Attorney (or registered one on behalf someone else in your capacity as their attorney) between 1st April 2013 and 31 March 2017, then you could be due a partial refund on the application fee paid to the Office of the Public Guardian.

The application fees were reduced from £110 to £82 from 1 April 2017 by the Ministry of Justice due to a reduction in operating costs in processing applications.

It is anticipated that around two million people may be due a refund.

If you think that you are due a refund, a claim can be made using the simple online service by visiting www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney-refund.

A Power of Attorney is an incredibly important document, which gives peace of mind to you and to your family. When you have a Power of Attorney in place, your loved one can help you with your finances, if you are finding it difficult to manage yourself.

A Health & Welfare Power of Attorney means that you can authorise someone you trust to give directions about the care you would like to receive (or not receive) when you are receiving medical treatment.
